Hi Guys!
Today you may have noticed people with a smudged-looking cross on their head, you may have wondered what had happened or why they forgot to wash today!
However, the explanation is simple but cool, today is Ash Wednesday, a special church service at which the vicar will place a cross on your forehead with ashes if you go to church.
Can sound a little weird but here's why it happens, it is a symbol like an emoji, like on social media, it means that life is passing and we need to say sorry to God and to others for the bad stuff that we have done.
Clear so far?
So here's what happens next, before the chocolate bit at Easter, we have a test of our will-power like a diet after Christmas (like your parents go on or during lock-down when they made too many trips to the fridge) but this one is before Easter and we are supposed to give up something that we really like such as chocolate and ice cream...all the good stuff....I know....not good but its what Jesus did and Jesus was cool right, he spent 40 days in the wilderness that's like somewhere with no MacDonalds and had really little to eat.
So you can see that Jesus was really like a superhero and managed all that time with nothing because he knew that to get to the good stuff, he had to get through the bad stuff first....to get to the end and be the super hero that lived forever and will save us all.
Perhaps during Lent which is the 40 days before egg time, think of something you could not do, like being annoying to your brother or sister or eating too many sweets or not doing your share of the chores.
Try doing something good and do it for Jesus as he gave the ultimate sacrifice for you and me so that we can be happy in this world and the next.
Love you all xx
Mary-Rose
