Captain Sir Tom Moore

A poem that I wrote on hearing of Captain Tom's passing.

Dear Captain Tom,

On hearing of your death, my heart turned cold.

For many people, Captain Tom, you were a super-hero and for the rest
you were a pure inspiration.

Captain Tom, you walked like a trooper, round and round your garden to
save others, never thinking of yourself or taking a rest, you are one
of God’s absolute best.

You were brave and true of heart; the kind of man who is rare to find.

I hope you are resting now, getting those feet up and watching down on
the Spitfire and the flag at half-mast, we all loved you, Captain Tom,
you were our adopted granddad, we saw a hero in our midst.

Above gold and silver.

Your heart glowed as the most precious ruby in this country’s crown.

Now as you lay your head down and sleep with the angels, at ease with the Lord.

God soothes away your pain and tells you that you are the bravest of
soldiers and the best of His men.

We down below move on in a world, mixed up in its own feelings,
reaching for the skies and then falling back down again.  We are
always impatient, never satisfied but in many minds but an old soldier
never dies.

He just sleeps, waiting, one eye slightly open. He keeps us safe.
Always on duty, brave soldier, his faith never wanes. He just carries
on his duties with God’s love in his heart, so proud to be God’s
lookout and a respected warrior who protects the Saviour now.

Captain Tom. you are that soldier, standing by God, fighting for
others less fortunate than you.

You will always be a hero and a father and granddad but now you are an
angel with a warrior’s heart, like great St Michael.

God bless you, forever, Captain Sir Tom!
