Snow in a country churchyard

Rosedale Abbey, which in normal times is a tourist magnet, in the snow. Here is the churchyard of Parish Church of St Mary and St Laurence.  Rosedale Abbey gets its name from a small Cistercian nunnery, founded in 1158 by William of Rosedale. At most only ever housing nine nuns and a prioress at any one time it survived for nearly four centuries before the dissolution in 1535. Most of the stone was used during the iron mining boom of the nineteenth century but one tower remains standing outside the west door of the current church.

Rest in snow

Midge Hall is a local farm, now a camping site.  Dowsons are a local family, no fewer than 14 other graves in the graveyard.

A well-trodden path

A less well trodden path in times of Covid

Until I tread on it
Not open but quite a few still are for private prayer and thoughts

Close-ups

Snow over one foot deep in places

We're coming back once Covid is behind us!
